About

To move, to breathe, to fly, to float,
To gain all while you give,
To roam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.

― Hans Christian Andersen, The Fairy Tale of My Life: An Autobiography

Born in Spain, raised in the United Kingdom, owner of perennially itchy feet. After six years living in China (Ningbo, then Suzhou) I am now back where it all began, in Spain, Barcelona specifically. Travel has been part of my life since my parents took me on their adventures around Spain as a baby. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to visit every continent in the world, with the exception of Antarctica (one day, one day!) and I enjoy sharing my experiences with others through my writing and photographs.

My favourite places

I’m currently on the come-down from more than half a decade living in China and processing all the amazing places I visited while living there. My favourite places on that side of the world include Hong Kong, Yangshuo, the Zhaoxing Miao village and Shanghai. It’s an absolutely vast country, however, and there are still so many places yet to explore.

The city of my birth, Madrid, is without a doubt one of my favourite places in the world, while I am now enjoying getting to know Barcelona, where I have lived since March 2019.

Syria is one of the countries that’s really stuck in my mind as one of my favourite all-time travel experiences. The food was amazing, the people friendly and the landscapes, architecture and history, quite literally, biblical. What’s happened there since I visited in 2008 is an absolute tragedy and it breaks my heart that people are not able to travel to this once-thriving destination.

Me at the amazing Bayon Temple in Cambodia’s Siem Reap.

Freelance writing

As well as maintaining this blog, I also spend my time persuading people to pay me to write about travel. You may have seen my work on lonelyplanet.com, to which I’m a regular contributor. I was the Lonely Planet Local for Suzhou, working to keep their information about the city up-to-date, and have just completed my first Lonely Planet guidebook research trip – keep a look out for the next edition of the China guidebook! I have also written for other publications such as culturetrip.com, The Guardian TravelCity Weekend, That’s magazines, GoMadNomad.com, White Noise, The Address and the World Atlas of Street Food.

As well as travel writing, I also do corporate copywriting and digital marketing. My work has included writing for public and media relations activities, social media content development, website strategy and content, marketing, e-newsletters and video scripts.
